BSc (Hons) Motorsport Technology with Optional Sandwich Placement/ Study Abroad

Duration: years full time including placement,

Scholarship: The value of the up to £2000 each, will be offered by the school of engineering and Technology on the bases of academic achievements and Personal Statement.

Overview of the Course: 

This course will give you the combination of skills necessary to support motorsport engineers as they strive for efficiency and optimum performance in their vehicle design.Excitement, travel opportunities, and working in team to achieve success are major attractions of motorsport.  In this course, you will develop your understanding of the theory and practice of designing and manufacturing high performance vehicles in this branch of the automotive industry. 





Motorsport is not just exciting entertainment, but also an important part of the development side of the automotive industry.  The competitiveness of the sport drives engineers to develop innovative ideas and take advantage of up and coming technologies that, if successful, could be employed across the main automotive industry in future.  This course will give you the combination of skills necessary to support motorsport engineers as they strive for efficiency and optimum performance in their vehicle design.

In your final year you focus on the application of motorsport technology. You will study automotive body engineering, chassis, powertrain technology, aerodynamics and engine design for motorsport, as well as the engineering aspects most closely associated with racing. A vehicle design project fosters team capabilities that employer's value, and you will have the chance to develop more specialist knowledge by exploring a topic that particularly interests you. 


Work placement:

You have the opportunity to spend a year working either in a professional research environment or within industry. 
The practical experience you gain will be of tremendous benefit both when you resume your studies and when you embark on a career. Students have previously undertaken placements in organisations such as:

  • Mitsubishi ElectricPrimary Designs
  • Motrac Racing
  • RP Aero Systems

Study Abroad:

This course offers you the opportunity to study abroad in the Sandwich Year through the University's study abroad programme. Study abroad opportunities are available worldwide and in Europe under the Erasmus+ Programme.
