Agriculture‒fastest growing subject in the UK

According to Environment Minister of UK, Elizabeth Truss, agriculture is the fastest growing subject. Total of 19,000 students are studying agriculture in the UK, i.e. 4.6% increase from the last year. The growth is sudden but not surprising, considering that 95% students who graduate in agriculture are able to find employment within 6 months.

The UK currently lacks workers with argonomic skills which is vital part of the modern farming. Also, the average age of the farmers in the UK is close to 59 and the new blood is required.

A degree in agriculture is not only for farmers, 55% of people working in agriculture are self-employed. And getting a degree is an ideal preparation for a student to understand the industry, a good degree will also include studying business and management along as well.

The career option after the degree is not limited to farm and for farmer, but the degree also offers other opportunities as well. Graduates who do not wish to work on a farm with cows and other animals can find employment with food retailers and suppliers. They can also work in education, consultancy, research and technology.
